Two people were arrested Monday morning after a standoff with police that lasted nearly two and a half hours.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that Bell County constables were attempting to finalize the eviction of residents at a home at 551 Brenda Drive around 9 AM when a resident threatened to shoot anyone who tried to enter the home.

The constables backed off, established a perimeter around the house, and called the Bell County Sheriff's Department for assistance.

Sheriff's deputies and constables made contact with the people inside the home and began negotiating.

The suspects eventually agreed to exit the home. They were arrested and taken to the Bell County Jail.

Bell County Precint 4 Constable Edd Melton told the Herald one of the suspects is former military, and that the eviction may have been the result of a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs foreclosure on the home.

Melton said neither suspect was carrying a weapon when they were arrested, though a loaded shotgun was found in the home. According to Melton, one suspect was in possession of marijuana and at least one other substance, and one suspect could face serious charges for threatening to shoot police officers.

Police have not yet released the names of the suspects or specified what sort of charges they'll face.
