Woman Shot by Off-Duty Officer in Copperas Cove Says She Was Headed to Hospital
Over the weekend, an unfortunate incident happened in Copperas Cove in which a woman was shot during an altercation with an off-duty police officer.
Texas Rangers are investigating what happened after an off-duty police officer opened fire on a woman Sunday afternoon. The woman says it happened after she made a U-turn in front of the officer's car because she needed to head to a hospital after experiencing pain.
According to a report from our partners at KWTX, Lacresha Murray says she and the man took turns racing past each other after she finally stopped to confront the man.
She says an argument started and the man pulled out a gun as she turned around to run back to her truck. She said the man didn't identify himself as an officer until after pulling his gun, and that he fired several shots as she ran away.
Police arrived in the 1500 Block of Robertson Avenue around 12:43 PM Sunday after receiving multiple calls from neighbors who heard the shooting.
Murray was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, where she was treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and later released.
In an email, Copperas Cove Police Department's Lt. Kevil Miller said the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. The Killeen Daily Herald's Thaddeus Imerman reports that the officer involved is on administrative leave, but it's not known if they're on paid or unpaid leave.
