Swab the deck ye land lovers! Today is International Talk Like a Pirate day!
Do you ever get the itch to ditch your regular 9-5 in favor of living life on the seven seas? Well, while most of us probably will never have the chance to be a real pirate, at least now we have an excuse to talk like one! Across the world, September 19th is the official Talk Like a Pirate day, and people everywhere are celebrating!
If you simply say "Arrrg!" at Long John Silver's you receive a free whitefish strip. Same goes for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Just speak like a pirate, and they'll toss a doughnut your way!
In order to get in the spirit of the holiday, I thought I'd include the top 5 pirate movies to watch on this special day!
1) PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN FRANCHISE
This is clearly the obvious choice. Johnny Depp's portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow made pirates cool again, and he definitely trademarked pirate swag.
2) HOOK
90's kids everywhere will agree, this movie is awesome. This Robin Williams flick shows Peter Pan bounce back from boring grown up life to fight his arch rival and save his kids from the evil Captain Hook. "BANGARANGGGG!"
3) PETER PAN
Is it weird to have a crush on a cartoon character? Because as a kid I was in love with Peter Pan. Go ahead, judge me.
4) THE GOONIES
"Do the Truffle Shuffle!" Clearly one of the best gems to come out of the 80's. Also, that Sloth guy was a little scary, but endearing!
5) MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND
I'm a big fan of the Muppets franchise. Although A Muppet Christmas Carol is clearly my fav, this one definitely comes in at #2. In fact, I could bust out with a few verses from "Cabin Fever" right now!
